Valentine decorations for the home are easily forgotten as an option to celebrate February 14th. As the special day approaches, emphasis on a romantic date or flowers for a significant other blocks out other options. Valentine’s day decorations are a fun way to bring the whole family into celebrating loving thoughts. Pretty hearts don’t mean just a romantic mood as childhood valentines are also a perfect way to share good things. Just as Christmas decorations help bring joy to one holiday season, valentine’s decor will bring new life even to singles. Read on to get creative juices flowing and create your own decoration ideas in simple ways or a big impact.

History
Pessimists say February 14th exists just to make everyone buy a great Valentine’s day gift but it’s more complicated. The origins come from the Catholic tradition of celebrating St. Valentine (though even which person with that name is disputed). Accordingly, the day is already a set celebration day on the calendar. However, the tradition of linking it to love is ascribed to Chaucer, valentine now being a word synonymous with love. In amongst his poetry and romance, it was a natural flow to create a link with love. After that, modern corporations have created a link between flirting and valentines but celebrating all love is still possible.
Valentine Decorations For The Home as Table Decor
Easy ways to spread a little love in inexpensive ways is a splash of color in a table setting. A great way to make your breakfast nook or dining room pop is a table runner for each time of year. Of all decor items, runners are the most versatile, being subbed out each season as befits the time. In this season, they don’t need to say Happy Valentine’s day, cute hearts or even gold hearts will work. My linked photos to Amazon show lots of runners within this holiday (which qualify for free shipping with Amazon Prime). As well, there is no rule that you can’t buy your own flowers so pink and red flowers, ideally roses in the center will set the aura. As always, I recommend subtle hints everywhere and then build density over the years. That way you don’t get burned out with busyness or go broke.

Valentine Decorations For The Home In Your Living Room
Arguably the most popular room, living rooms are the right place to highlight the day of love with favorite things. Two options: on the simpler end of things, picture frames, or for those with money and/or ambition/time, a tiered tray. With picture frames, whether you have a favorite photo or want to dress up random ones, there’s lots of options. Pre-decorated frames are perhaps the most accessible decoration imaginable as it’s a matter of popping in your chosen picture. Capturing Wonderland has great DIY vintage cards that may look good with the proper frame or else placed in a tray as below.

Tiered trays are an easy DIY project but time consuming to look right, (or perfect time to order a premade one!) Simply putting rose petals around some of your personally important pink, red, and white will create the desired aura. Similarly, My Journey To Green wrote a post about crafts that would fit in coffee cups or on their own. However, you may want to order holiday specific items or even go to the dollar store to get some basics.

One of the most understated ways to celebrate anything is with a burlap love banner. This is a straight forward and universal decoration that, if you attach velcro, isbe used for any season. The velcro can then attach whatever letters or relevant items you want.

Valentine Decorations For The Home On Your Front Door
Setting the stage in entering your home, a heart shape wreath on your front porch will definitely create a mood. To have a bigger effect, heart-shaped garland wrapped around railings or hung from eaves will definitely make your passion known. Heart garland is a great way to do crafts with your kids to keep the childlike familial love as priority.

LIGHTS!!!
As anyone who has ever read my stuff knows, I love any excuse to put up light strings. They make anytime pop, help light up dark nights, and if they don’t bring joy to your heart, get help. While light strings are most commonly associated to Christmas, lesser known to Halloween, they are great for all occasions. While there are relevant coloring for lights, the choice of size and type also has to be considered, (see post).

Inflatables
As I explain in my inflatable faq post, they too play a role in any holiday. Just as negatives are notable, their ability to create an impact and be out of sight easily is a win. There are a range of options for any size/space that will store or lay flat during the day as needed.
